With his trademark energy, candor, wit and hairdo, former ABC News White House Correspondent Sam Donaldson spoke to a packed house of fellow “cancer club” members and/or their loved ones at the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s Star of Hope breakfast in Omaha on Tuesday.
Sam Donaldson – Former ABC News White House Correspondent
Given that I’m a former reporter, a lung cancer advocate and PR/social media practitioner, I, of course, wasn’t going to leave the breakfast without nabbing an interview with him. He had very little time, as he had to catch a flight, but we managed to pull it off.

I asked him if I could chat with him about lung cancer, as well as social media’s impact on journalism. He said, “Sure, sure. Anything you want.”
I briefly explained my “WTF?” (Where’s the Funding) for Lung Cancer? campaign and asked him what political advice he has for “WTF-ers.” If you’re interested in his response, you can see it here.
While Donaldson is technically “retired,” he’s obviously still on top of things in the news industry. I asked him what he thought of social media’s impact on the future of journalism, broadcast television, particularly. While he didn’t necessarily answer my question, he wasted no time offering his opinions on “new media.”
Unfortunately, I was limited to this one question and his one response. But, I do think what he said is quite interesting. Do you agree with Donaldson that “many bloggers don’t care about the facts?” Would love your thoughts.
